The Bitmap™ is a bitcrusher with fractional bit reduction and sample rate modulation. The Bitmap 2 adds waveshaping, wavefolding, and a window comparator for extreme digital distortion. A drive control handles everything from single coil guitars to synthesizers, with +8 dBu maximum signal level and enough gain to sound like an overdriven mixer channel. Modulation and envelope control create dynamic, responsive distortion and digital artifacts.
The Bitmap 2 is tuned to provide maximum sustain without sputtering on staccato notes. Less extreme settings add layers of nonlinearities that interact in subtle ways, giving you the warmth and grit of 8- and 12-bit samplers. Sample rate reduction turns your guitar into 8-bit video game sounds or twists scales into inharmonic melodies. Sample rate modulation adds subtle motion or morphs your guitar into entirely new textures.
The Bitmap™ works with guitar, bass, synthesizers, drum machines, and other instruments or line level sources.

What if I receive a defective or incorrect item?
If a product is defective upon arrival, or the wrong item was received, all the shipping fees will be covered by us and we will send you a replacement once the original item is received. If for any reason a replacement wont be available for a significant amount of time, we will issue you a store credit to use on another item. For defective items, Prymaxe reserves the right to refuse the return if we determine the reason for the unit failing was not covered under the warranty (i.e., if the item was damaged due to user fault or error). If you feel your item was damaged in shipping, please take plenty of pictures of the damaged box and item and immediately contact us so we can open a claim with the shipping company.
Please be very diligent with testing your defective item. Be sure to try other guitars, power supplies, cables, and amps. We also request that you take a video of the item not working. If we receive your item, test it, and find it to be working, we will give you a refund minus the cost of shipping both ways and charge a 20% restocking fee.
When must I ship my return?
Your return must be received by us within 45 days of the original purchase date for store credit, or postmarked by 14 days for a refund to the original purchase method (PayPal, credit card, etc). This means you must ship your return with enough time for us to receive the package within the deadline. If it does not arrive within 45 days, we will refuse the package. If you feel you sent the package within a reasonable time frame, but it arrived late due to the shipping company’s error, please immediately contact us to make an appeal before we refuse the package.
What if I pre-ordered an item?
If a pre-ordered item arrives outside of the 45 day window from when you ordered it, you will have 7 days from the arrival date to send it back for store credit.
Why was my package refused?
There are a number of reasons your package could be refused by us, including:
Yesterday was my lucky day. I received a package from Prymaxe a day early (safely packed, thanks again Prymaxe!). Ordered together with a Grand Canyon since i needed a digital delay, i finally wanted to try out a bit crunching pedal. So it was either EHX Mainframe, Ottobit or the Bitmap.
Bitmap arrived and i plugged it in, first with a guitar, early in the chain in mono, later with an electric piano, after the stereo out of the EHX.
In both applications this baby delivered, crunching bit depth and sample rate sounds excellent, both in mono and in stereo, I was satisfied.
But that was not the end of it. Now i was curious, what else could this thing do? So i turned sampler rate and bit depth back up to max, cranked the drive pot, lowered the filter, switched the modulation to envelope and the toggle switch to all 3 settings...
I found an amazing rabbithole of useful and flat out INSANE sounds.
At the top of my head, Bitmap can pull of these tricks with a guitar or electric piano or vocals:
- booster pedal
- very aggressive fuzz
- Super Mario, C64 etc video game sounds
- ring modulation (super fast square lfo)
- the sound of early digital equipment such as 8-bit samplers
- broken mixing board channel strip (stereo)
- 24dB stereo filter
- from overdriven to digitally mutilated
much of this can be done dynamically depending on the volume of the input signal, the modulation depth and modulation source settings.
It sounds killer, one of my favourite settings is dialing in sample rate reduction just enough to get a slight digital sheen on the top end and then lowering the lowpass filter so that the sheen is a bit muffled. When you now play with the drive **** and your guitar volume, astonishing things happen. The more you dial back the volume, the more it sounds like early Ensoniq Mirage or SP-12. Noisy, filthy street smart sounds. OTOH the more drive you dial in, the more it sounds saturated until the signal becomes distorted like a broken transistor radio.
I have feeling there is lots to discover with all the crazy modulation settings that i haven't touched yet. Most likely the best Red Panda pedal so far...
Tired of using the same old flavors of overdrive/distortion. Bitcrushing is a great alternative. I love tuning my bitcrushing to my desired sample rate overtone and then cranking the crush and drive ****. It’s such a thick heavy sound. The waveforms and modulation allow for interesting oscillations within the crushing sound. Can be really tame with light overdrive to full on Gated fuzz tones. One of my favorite things about this pedal is not what you would think... the mix ****! It allows me to bring in as little or as much of the effect with my dry tone as I want. Really a great textural and song part tool!
