The Aviator Cub represents our most advanced single channel combo amplifier. After careful sourcing and testing, we packed in three historical treasures: a '60 Tweed, a '62 Blonde, and a '65 Blackface. Unleashing them is as easy as plugging into the era you want to play in. Built for speed, the Aviator Cub is as powerful as it is lightweight and economical.
Combining forces with world class speaker manufacturer Eminence, we developed a super sonic 12 inch speaker that delivers all of the charm of classic low powered speakers, but with 50 watt power handling; a speaker that's first in its class. Whether you're after the mid-range power of a Tweed, the throaty yet bell-like Blonde, or the scooped mid-range and silky highs of a Blackface, the Aviator Cub delivers it all without ever breaking a sweat.

What if I receive a defective or incorrect item?
If a product is defective upon arrival, or the wrong item was received, all the shipping fees will be covered by us and we will send you a replacement once the original item is received. If for any reason a replacement wont be available for a significant amount of time, we will issue you a store credit to use on another item. For defective items, Prymaxe reserves the right to refuse the return if we determine the reason for the unit failing was not covered under the warranty (i.e., if the item was damaged due to user fault or error). If you feel your item was damaged in shipping, please take plenty of pictures of the damaged box and item and immediately contact us so we can open a claim with the shipping company.
Please be very diligent with testing your defective item. Be sure to try other guitars, power supplies, cables, and amps. We also request that you take a video of the item not working. If we receive your item, test it, and find it to be working, we will give you a refund minus the cost of shipping both ways and charge a 20% restocking fee.
When must I ship my return?
Your return must be received by us within 45 days of the original purchase date for store credit, or postmarked by 14 days for a refund to the original purchase method (PayPal, credit card, etc). This means you must ship your return with enough time for us to receive the package within the deadline. If it does not arrive within 45 days, we will refuse the package. If you feel you sent the package within a reasonable time frame, but it arrived late due to the shipping company’s error, please immediately contact us to make an appeal before we refuse the package.
What if I pre-ordered an item?
If a pre-ordered item arrives outside of the 45 day window from when you ordered it, you will have 7 days from the arrival date to send it back for store credit.
Why was my package refused?
There are a number of reasons your package could be refused by us, including:
Pretty remarkable amp. Have played 3 shows and is a great fit with pedals
My goal for buying a Quilter Aviator Cub was having a lightweight grab-n-go compact combo that had Blackface tones to match my standard setup.
My only amp has been a Fender 65 Super Reverb Reissue. It has all the clean Fender tones in spades, but is a bit cumbersome to lug around. I used to work at a guitar store that was stocked full of expensive boutique amps and my Super Reverb stands on it's own. It sounds magnificent.
So the cub is being compared to an amp that few amps can match in tone.
The cub definitely ticks all the boxes for size and weight. It's a wonderful relief on the back.
The tone is about 85% of the way to my Super Reverb.
It can be a bit boxy but improves by cutting some mids.
The top-end is a little tricky to EQ right.
I did a ton of research before purchasing this amp and more than one reviewer in the gear forums commented that it can be a bit brittle and spikey until the speaker breaks in a bit.
So hopefully the top end smooths out with time.
Right out of the box the treble is either a bit harsh or if rolled back can get a little too muted. It's missing that high-end presence/ air but if the treble is too high it hits that "piercing" frequency.
Again, hoping the speaker breaking in will resolve that a bit.
The reverb does not sound like spring reverb but is adequate at low levels to give a touch of space.
The tweed channel is noticably thicker and sounds good with the gain up high.
I still haven't figured out a use for the Blonde input. I guess I'm not sure what the "blonde sound" is supposed to be but it just sounds like a thinner blackface sound.
The limiter is ok-ish but is very... well..limited in functionality. It's only noticable at higher settings and when the gain is high. I wish it had a more functional sweep and wished it affected clean sounds.
The volume is massive in this amp and the headroom endless. This thing is absolutely good to go for gigging.
Overall this amp mostly does what I hoped it would do.
The tone is good-not-great but definitely nothing to be ashamed of. To be honest there are numerous compact tube amps I've played that didn't sound this good.
The Aviator Cub fills the niche that the Fender Blues Junior has lived in. And I think the Cub might do a better job in tone, features, and weight over the Blues Jr. Without doing a direct A/B comparison, going by memory, I think the Blues Jr. suffers from boxiness even more I don't think it has the headroom and overall volume of the Cub.
All without the hassle and maintainance of tubes.
Overall score: 8.5/10
So good! Killer tone at any volume! The key to getting that feel is the limiter. Well done, Quilter! Thank you!
