Introducing Dept. 10
Brought to you by Blackstar’s R&D division responsible for blue-sky innovation and design, Dept. 10 are the most advanced valve pedals in the world.
Meticulously designed and engineered by a team of musicians for musicians. Choose from Boost, Dual Drive or Dual Distortion to help you craft your perfect tone.
Real Valve Tone
At the heart of each Dept. 10 pedal is an ECC83 triode valve, running at more than 200V internally like a valve amp, which allows them to deliver organic tone, dynamics and break up.
Dual Drive and Dual Distortion include Cab Rig, our next-generation DSP speaker simulator that reproduces the sound and feel of a mic’d up guitar cab in incredible detail. Deep-dive using our free software and capture the incredible tones via low latency USB, XLR D.I. out or headphones.
The Duals are perfect for use as a valve interface for recording, or to seamlessly add valve tone and drive to your pedalboard, complete with built-in FX Loop.

If you feel you sent the package within a reasonable time frame, but it arrived late due to the shipping company’s error, please immediately contact us to make an appeal before we refuse the package.
What if I pre-ordered an item?
If a pre-ordered item arrives outside of the 45 day window from when you ordered it, you will have 7 days from the arrival date to send it back for store credit.
Why was my package refused?
There are a number of reasons your package could be refused by us, including:
OK. So I ended up purchasing this guitar pedal because it was at an exceptionally great deal thanks to prymaxe. I was in the market for somewhat of a high gain distortion pedal that could also double as a preamp in the event that I needed it to do so. From all the research that I had done, this appeared to be one that would fit the majority of my needs. Offers a clean channel, offers a game channel. Has an effects loop built in so you can run it effectively at the end of your chain before any modulation or reverbs/delays. Headphone out, XLR out, and threw out in the event you want to use it as a distortion pedal. And runs off of an actual 12 AX7/ECC83 preamp tube. How could I possibly go wrong. Well, the sound is not quite what I thought it would be. It does do exceptionally high gain tones well, but the clean channel is almost useless. Regardless of the EQ settings that are on the box. Having a shared EQ section, and getting it dialed in for the game channel, essentially meant that I was stuck with that EQ curve for the clean channel. And frankly, it just did not cut the mustard. Each channel has two selectable options. The clean channel has somewhat of a clean/crunch, and the game channel has gain, and even more gain. So depending on your preferences you do get a wide array of tones in theory. But other than the regular game channel, I found the other three options almost completely useless. I’ve tried it many different ways. I tried running it through a clean amp with the four cable method, I tried running it as its own preamp, I tried running it directly into the PA, I tried using it as a distortion in front of an amplifier, and I tried using it as a headphone amp. Where this pedal really shines is as a headphone amp, and directly to the PA. But trying to pair this up with any actual other amplifier, was just not very good at all. I guess, if you are looking to run this to the front of the house, or to do silent practicing, it might be perfect for you if you’re looking for those 1980s high gain tones. Think typical 80s hair metal like Metallica, Megadeth, etc. Surprisingly, I found another pedal that has almost identical options that sounds, at least in my opinion, significantly better hands down. I’m talking about the two notes le lead. I think the tonal qualities of the two notes is better, I get individual controls for both the clean channel and the dirty channel, the two channels are stackable, and I get the two notes wall of sound cabinet emulation. It essentially offers everything that the black star does, but gives you significantly more, and costs around the same amount of money. They both run off of essentially the same power supply, 9 V at 500 mA. The two notes sounds better as a distortion in front of the amplifier, with the four cable method, with the headphone out, and in front of the PA. So if I had to make the purchase over again, I would have started with the two notes, and bypass the Blackstar. The Blackstar dual distortion is not a bad pedal, but it’s not a great pedal either. Three.5 out of five stars is really the best that I could offer in the circumstance. Since half stars are not possible, I just rounded up to four. I will say this though, the size is quite nice compared to the two notes. This is about 6 inches wide, and about 4 1/2 inches tall. It has quite a few top mounted jacks to make routing easier, so ergonomically it is better than the two notes. The two notes is almost 8 inches tall, and about 5 inches wide, with only side mounted jacks. So on a typical guitar pedal board, this fits significantly better. Hopefully this review helps you make the best decision that you can.
I bought this pedal based on the reviews I have seen on youtube. It has pros and cons. I've used it through the effects loop of some of my amps and it seems it's the best way to use it. Since I have a Blackstar S1 EL34 and the 6L6 version, I have to say that this pedal sounds right in the middle of the two amps. It is supposed to have a "Clean" channel setting. Sadly, it sounds so dull and weak. I tried to use the crunch channel to bring a "clean sound". Can only be achieved with mid to low output pickups. On the other hand, it has a lot of gain and an fx loop. I found the sounds a bit better than a modeler, but it has like two usable sounds. The usb output is a great feature. Cabinets and microphones sound good, but not great. it would have been good idea if they include a Midi .There's two pedals that come to my mind that have similar features like this Dual Distortion ( Two Notes Le Lead - Amptweaker Tight Metal Pro II ) and I believe this pedal sit right in the middle of those two .In price and features . Overall, I would recommend this pedal to someone who is happy with a couple of sounds .
